FREQUENCY ASKED QUESTIONS

It's essential to have your questions about coaching answered before you start working with a coach. Know what you want to get out of coaching, and if the answers below don't fit your questions, please contact me.

WHAT IS LIFE COACHING?

The life coach definition is someone professionally trained to help you maximize your full potential and reach your desired results. They are like a supportive friend and a trusted advisers rolled into one. They’re someone who will push you to identify your goals, hold you accountable, and provide encouragement throughout your journey to become a better version of yourself.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND THERAPY?

Coaching is primarily future-focused – reaching your goals! Therapy moves the client from dysfunctional to functional, while coaching moves the client from functional to optimal. A coach believes that the client's answers come from within. While most of my clients doubt this fact, they soon realize that reaching their goals was always within a blend of their experiences, intelligence, intuition, and harnessed energy.

CAN MY COACH OFFER ME ADVICE IF I AM STUCK?

Great coaches ask insightful and empowering questions that largely will move clients through the blocks that prevent progress. That said, coaches can also provide information that is helpful to the client attaining their goal.

HOW DOES LIFE COACHING WORK?

First, we look at where you are and determine where you want to get to. Once we know the destination, we look at what is stopping you from getting there and how we can move you forward.
I use various tools and techniques, including but not limited to Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and the TGROW coaching model.

IF A COMPANY SPONSORS MY COACHING, HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS THE COACHING PROCESS?

The process between coach and client is completely confidential. While the corporate sponsor may articulate the client's goals, the relationship between client and coach stays just between the two. The best coaching can only be done when there are high trust levels between coach and client, nurtured through confidentiality.

WHEN MIGHT LEADERSHIP COACHING NOT WORK?

Although it is widely proven that Leadership Coaching can be highly effective, it is not a panacea, and there are a few situations where it should not be used.  The coach’s skill and experience will warn them when the situation is not right.

Do not implement leadership coaching in the following situations:

  • Lack of commitment

  • Wrong background

  • Written-off

  • Wrong mission

If these issues are present in your organisation, we recommend that they are addressed before investing in leadership coaching.
